Katie Britt

Government

U.S. Senator (R-AL)

Profile

Katie Britt has represented Alabama in the United States Senate since January 2023, becoming the first woman elected to the Senate from Alabama and the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate at age 40. Born February 2, 1982, in Enterprise, Alabama, Britt graduated from the University of Alabama and earned her law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law, then built her career as Chief of Staff to long-serving Alabama Senator Richard Shelby before succeeding him upon his retirement. Her rapid ascent in Senate Republican leadership circles — she was tapped to deliver the Republican response to the State of the Union in March 2024 — reflects both her personal discipline and the degree to which she is viewed as a rising figure in the party's future.

Britt has been a consistent pro-Israel vote and a member of Senate delegations to Israel. She serves on the Senate Banking Committee, where Israel-related sanctions legislation has been a recurring item, and has been vocal in supporting maximum pressure policies on Iran and in opposing any wavering in American weapons supply to Israel. Her positioning on Israel reflects the Alabama evangelical Christian base she represents — a constituency where pro-Israel sentiment is deep, theologically rooted, and politically reliable — and her own stated personal conviction that the U.S.-Israel relationship is a moral as well as strategic imperative.

In the post-October 7 environment, Britt was among the Senate Republicans who signed onto joint statements condemning Hamas, supporting emergency military aid appropriations for Israel, and opposing administration attempts to condition or delay that aid. She has positioned herself as a reliable pro-Israel voice from a safe Republican seat, which means her support is not contingent on electoral calculation — she votes for Israel because she believes in it. At Rank 36, Britt represents the next generation of Senate pro-Israel leadership: young, female, evangelical Christian, from the deep South, and unwavering in a way that reflects constituency alignment rather than political positioning.
