Conference of Presidents CEO

Profile

William Daroff has served as CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations since 2021, taking the helm of the umbrella body that coordinates the policy positions of 53 national Jewish organizations — the institutional voice through which the organized American Jewish community speaks with a unified voice on Israel and antisemitism to the U.S. government and to world leaders. Before his appointment as Conference CEO, Daroff spent 17 years as Senior Vice President for Public Policy and Director of the Washington Office of the Jewish Federations of North America, where he built one of the most effective Jewish communal government relations operations in Washington and developed the bipartisan relationships with congressional staff, executive branch officials, and foreign embassy personnel that made him one of the best-connected Jewish organizational professionals of his generation. Educated in Jewish communal institutions and with a career built entirely in Jewish organizational life, Daroff represents the professional Jewish communal executive who has made Washington advocacy a lifetime vocation.

The Conference of Presidents under Daroff's leadership has navigated the post-October 7 environment with the challenge of maintaining organizational consensus among 53 member organizations that span the full ideological range of American Jewish communal life — from AIPAC and the Zionist Organization of America on the right to the Reform Movement and the American Jewish Committee in the center to progressive organizations on the left — while producing clear, forceful positions on the Hamas attack, the hostages, antisemitism on campuses, and U.S. policy toward Israel. Daroff has been active as a spokesperson in the media, in congressional testimony, and in diplomatic meetings, serving as a convener who can speak for a community rather than for any single constituency within it.

His professional background in Jewish federation work — the system of annual campaign fundraising and social service delivery that is the financial backbone of American Jewish communal life — gives him operational relationships throughout the organized Jewish community that extend well beyond Washington lobbying circles. He has also been a visible presence on social media, particularly on X, where he regularly comments on antisemitism incidents and Israel policy in a voice that is accessible to general audiences while maintaining the credibility of representing a serious organizational body. At Rank 90, Daroff is the organizational convener who holds the institutional architecture of organized American Jewish advocacy together — the CEO who must keep 53 member organizations aligned enough to present a common front when it matters most.
